Jr. High Retreat

November 21-23, 2008

The Diocesan Youth Council (DYC) is pleased to bring you this fall’s Junior High Retreat which will be held from Friday to Sunday, November 21-23, at the Barbara C. Harris Camp and Conference Center.

The registration check-in begins promptly at 7:00PM on Friday evening and the first group event is at 8:00PM. The retreat ends at 1:00PM Sunday afternoon.

 Sample schedule

We will have many fun games and activities that both your youth and adult mentors will love.  This is a great opportunity to enjoy a summer camp reunion, bond more closely with members of your own parish youth group and to make new friends from around your deanery and the Diocese.  There will be a live band, fabulous worship, great games and activities, as well as engaging and thought-provoking discussions.   Bring your friends.  All are welcome.  Fun is guaranteed!

This retreat is intended for youth in grades 6-8.  If your parish uses “The Journey to Adulthood” program then all members of your J2A group are welcome.

Each group is responsible for providing (and registering) adult supervisors for its youth.  We require one adult (of same gender as the candidates to be supervised) per no more than eight youth.  The cost for all registered attendees is $115.00 per person (youth and adults).

OTHER STUFF

Adult Chaperones:

Please be aware that all groups are responsible for providing and registering their own gender appropriate adult chaperones.

Each group must provide 1 adult male chaperone per 8 male students and 1 adult female per 8 female students (e.g., if your parish sends 2 boys and 2 girls, you must send a male AND a female adult).

Parish priests must personally vouch for adult chaperones sent to the retreat. We require that you contact Kit Lonergan  specifically naming each chaperone and  telling us how well and how long you've known them, whether they have been recently CORI'd and are up-to-date with Safe Church Training, and giving us your personal vote of confidence that each adult is qualified and suitable for work with youth.

Staying the weekend:

We do expect that all participants will attend the entire event. Two reasons for this are:

  1. This is a great weekend filled with many components that build upon each other. Missing any part of the event cheats the absent student and the affected community (small groups and church groups) of the the full experience.

  2. This event will be sold out. We only have a limited number of beds and we expect that some students will be unable to attend because we have filled up. We would prefer not to turn away those who are able to commit to the entire weekend because of registered students who cannot attend the entire retreat.
